Are Guardians compensated for their time spent handling Guardianship matters?

Guardians can be compensated by the Illinois Guardianship Estate for their time spent handling Guardianship matters. This compensation, however, is subject to Court approval. Usually, the Court will consider the number of hours a Guardian works each month/year, and then multiplies this number by a reasonable hourly rate. The Court can also set a reasonable monthly fee for the Guardian based upon the Guardian's typical work. Also, it is important to note that judges in the Cook County Guardianship courts tend to be stricter in awarding compensation to Guardians.
